Tai is so adorable when he learns something new.  He's so proud of himself, his whole face shines with it.  Yesterday he learned to clap.  He showed me while we were about to go to sleep.  He sat up in bed and clapped a few times.  I clapped back and he got really excited.  It made him forget what he was doing, exactly and the next few times he went to clap and missed his hands entirely.  Then he tapped on his belly instead.

Today he stood by himself a couple of times.  The first time we were in the kitchen.  He'd crawled up my legs, holding on to my shorts.  I took his hands so I could detach him, and while he wasn't paying attention, I let go of his hands and he balanced for about 10 seconds before plopping down on his butt.   Then, later, he was in the living room, cruising around the coffee table and suddenly I noticed he'd let go and was just standing there, without even holding anything.  I clapped for him and he gave a big grin.  I think he stood for a minute or so before plopping back down.

It's not going to be long before he's a real toddler, learning to walk and getting into even more stuff.

In completely other news, we're enjoying this Indian Summer.  My brother was in town this weekend and we spent a lot of time wandering the city.  He's so used to living in the desert that San Francisco chill can come as a surprise.  It was warm enough that we could sit in the back garden of Wild Side West without him freezing his butt off.  He's thinking of moving up here to meet more friends, and to be closer to Mom and me and Tai.  Tai loves his uncle.  He especially enjoyed flirting with him and pulling on his goatee.

Today we headed up to Holly Park in the afternoon.  We met another 9 month old, a little girl named Emma.  Tai watched her swing, and other other little toddlers playing.  Then one of the moms from our group arrived and we got to spend some time catching up.  I need to get together with moms more often.  I feel understood in a way that even Tom doesn't get.  It's heartening.
