aubreymTwas the night before... and since neither Tom nor I have anything like a tradition when we're on our own without the rest of our families, we're just winging it. We spent the day working on the house and finally finishing our Christmas cards. Tonight we're watching 'Alien' by the light of our Christmas tree. I've never seen it before, so Tom decided to remedy my lacking cultural literacy. So far, I've mostly been grossed out. Just what one needs to get in the holiday spirit. Cocoa has been watching some with us as well. So far she doesn't much like Ash. When he was all kersploded and just a talking head, Cocoa growled at him. Yeah, she's tough.
Our new bathroom has a working toilet and shower, so Tom has decommissioned the old bathroom. The new bathroom is really coming together. The painting is almost finished, the lights and fan are installed and working. The medicine cabinet is in the wall. All it needs is a sink - which we had, but they sent us a beige version rather than the white we ordered. Needless to say, Tom was quite pleased when we discovered this. Everything else has come together really well, though. I like the colors we picked (if I do say so myself) and Tom has done a wonderful job constructing everything and doing the plumbing and tiling and electrical. If ever he quits working in the computer industry, he could probably get a job as a contractor.
Not so the people who lived here before us. Tom's tearing out the old bathroom and it is so poorly built that it's a wonder neither the tub nor the toilet fell through the floor. They built the walls with particle board (under some crappy 1950's era tiles), which got damp and rotted. They put the tub directly on the floor, not letting the walls help to support it. The whole room is moldy and disgusting. Fortunately Tom's wearing a mask and doing the demolition without me. Pictures to come.
